For this weeks SSS, I'm going to continue with the current novel I'm working on titled Painted Memories. I'm picking up right where I left off last week. So if you haven't read it, please do HERE.
Here's the setup: Lilly has just fell into a pond after tripping... where she proceeded to act like a fool. A side note: Lilly is terrified of snakes... school prank gone bad. Luckily for her (or not) the jogger she moved over for to let pass, has just pulled her out of the pond. After getting him wet and dirty in the process, he walks her over to a bench to catch her breath, because you know... flailing around in three feet of water is tough stuff! Lilly thanks him for "saving" her and they introduce themselves to each other.
Me: "Lilly, meet Drew.... Drew, this is Lilly!"
Okay now that introductions are over, here's your Sunday Six!
“Umm, you’ve got something—” he started to say as he reached his hand toward my hair.
I saw it out of the corner of my eye as he pulled it from between the strands of my hair. It was long and green and only one word came to mind... Snake! I jumped up, a scream building in my throat, but slapped my hand over my mouth when he dangled the long piece of grass between his fingers. I closed my eyes and settled back down on the bench and thought to myself, I’m such a freaking idiot. “I take it you’re not a fan of the reptile species huh?”
So that's it! My Sunday Six. I hope enjoyed it. It definitely won't be the last time Lilly does something stupid in front on someone. I hope you'll come back next week to see what happens next!
If you'd like to see what other fantastic snippets there are in this weeks SSS, you can visit the HERE. To get you started, here are a few of my friends whom always have awesome SSS:
Funny scene :) Great six Loni!
ReplyDeleteAs you know, it only gets better :)
DeleteI've done exactly the same freakout with balls of my hair that I find in every load of laundry. My first thought is "spider" every single time.
ReplyDeleteOh great... thanks Wendy! Now I'm going to be looking at these balls of hair the same way. Thanks a lot!! lol
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
LOL! Too funny, but I would have reacted the same way.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I think anyone in their right mind would have acted this way. Thanks for visiting Tonya!
Delete"I got silly and found a frog in the water by a hollow log, and I shook it at her, and I said "this frog's for you". I don't like spiders and snakes, and that ain't what it takes to love me ..." Spiders and Snakes by Jim Stafford (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NxCEjMbNqY)
ReplyDeleteWe boys love it when girls get all squeamish. lol. Great Six, Loni. Your writing makes me fall in love every time I read something from you.
Wow Mel, you honor me with such a compliment. Thank you for brightening my morning!
DeleteCute and funny! Great visual with her wet and dirty from the pond. Love that!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Carrie!
DeleteOh my gosh, I'm sitting here giggling at the image! I can just picture her as she's already a mess from her adventure in the pond, and the poor guy that helped her witnessing her panic attack over the grass she thought was a snake!!! Fantastic six, I can't wait for more (and I'm still laughing!)
ReplyDeleteOoo I'm so happy you enjoyed this Nomi! It's quite a comical scene altogether. Something I could definitely picture happening to myself.
DeleteLOL! Her reaction is perfect! This left me with a huge smile as I imagined myself in her predicament. Poor soul. Great job of creating an emotional bond between reader and character.
ReplyDeleteWhat an original boy-meets-girl scene! It sounds like one of those times that you look back on and laugh --- but it's not funny at the time.
