The wonderful L.J over at L.J Writes tagged me on the Next Best Thing Challenge! If you haven't check her blog or her book out, I highly recommend heading over there asap! She has a fantastic Paranormal Romance book out called Guardian Of Fate that is extremely addictive. Book 2, Seeker Of Fate is coming out soon and I can't wait to read it all the way through!
The rules of this challenge are pretty simple:
- Answer the 10 NBTC questions below
- Spread the fun and tag 5 awesome people to participate
Easy enough right? Let's get started!
1. What is the title of your book/WIP?
Taking Chances, my debut novel which came out in March 2012
2. Where did the idea for the book come from?
I was driving to work one day and saw a group of homeless people walking the road. They were young, maybe early 20's, two guys and one girl. I didn't think anything of it at the time but on my way home that day they popped in my mind and wondered how far they had gotten within my eight hour workday. From there I started wondering all sorts of thing, was the woman dating one of the guys... OMG... what if she got pregnant, what would she do?
See... this is how my brain works... I start with one thought and before I know it, I'm so far away from my original thought that I scare myself sometimes. On the plus side... I think of great ideas!
3. What genre would your book fall under?
Adult Contemporary Romance
4. Which actors would you choose your characters to play in a movie rendition?
Ooo here we go. I hope no one thinks I'm crazy for the people I picked for Alex and Clair, but they really are the closest to how I imagine them to look in my head. And not because Kristen is so beautiful or that I could eat Ian up with a spoon... yumm.. Okay, enough swooning... onto the the cast...

5. What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?
Hard circumstances send Clair out on the streets thinking anything could be better then staying at home with her seriously depressed mother, that is until she wonders into Springhill, VA and meets Alex who's already walked a couple hundred miles in her shoes, wants to help and changes her life forever.... for the better... or not?
(Whoa! That was hard!)
6. Is your book published or represented?
It's self published.
7. How long did it take you to write?
Nine months... being pregnant didn't even feel as long as this nine months did!
8. What other books in your genre would you compare it to?
Ooo I wouldn't be so bold as to compare it to anyone one else, but I will say that several readers have compared it to a Lifetime movie or a Nicholas Sparks book. (Which was a total honor!!)
9. Which authors inspired you to write this book?
No one really. I love to read! I used to read and blog my book reviews all the time. When I first thought up this idea for Taking Chances, I thought... I wonder if I could write a book. With a lot of encouragement, I figured what did I have to lose? Nothing.
10. Tell us anything else that might pique our interest in your book.
Wow! I hope I didn't bore you any with all the detail! Thanks so much L.J. This was extremely fun!
Now for the awesome peeps I shall pass this challenge on to next:

I think you have a great cast, and your discovery of the idea, struck a cord. I've been there, after my divorce in 2000. It's been a roller coaster of homelessness. I can relate to Clair in so many ways save for one, I didn't choose the life, it chose me. Fine one liner. that's going to be very hard given my over active editing brain. ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope I do as well with my post. I should have it by the end of the week. ;)
I'm so sorry to hear that Mel, I hate to hear that you had to go through that. I hope that you are making a comeback! I have to say, writing this story, and the bits about her being homeless really changed my heart when seeing someone who is homeless. We never know that story/reason they got that way and it always breaks my heart.
DeleteMy one liner was horrible lol. I need a lot of comas and a couple of periods LOL
I love the cast Loni! And your 1 liner works out great! So glad you had fun with this!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura! Not sure I like my one-liner tho.
DeleteI loved getting a glimpse into how you can up with the story idea, Loni, and how everythng spun from that single scene while driving to work. And now that I've seen your cast list (great choices!) I'll be able to visualize them in the roles of your characters as I start reading. I got sidetracked with final galleys on Weathering Rock, but I'm hoping to start Taking Chances tonight. It sounds awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG Mae! You're reading my book!! Wow, I'm seriously nervous now!
DeleteThanks for the tag, Loni! I loved reading the backstory on your book...
ReplyDelete;)
Thanks Liv! Loved that you stopped by and you're more than welcome!
DeleteFirst of all, thank you for tagging me in this! It was a lot of fun, and a lot harder than it looked when I set out to do it! I've already bookmarked your book to buy when I get a chance (or rather, any money, LOL) and this just reminded me why! I've enjoyed following your blog, and can't wait to read Taking Chances!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Nomi! Heading over now to check your post out! I'm thrilled you want to read Taking Chances... can't wait to hear what you think about it!!
